Welcome to my latest pattern Flowing Africa.

Flowing Africa is a 56+1 repeat pattern that seamlessly complements my African Spirit pattern. You are encouraged to incorporate any of these patterns, including the free African animal patterns available in my Facebook group's files, into your project. This versatile design will bring a touch of African elegance to your project.

This pattern is the same stitch count as African spirit so crocheters will be able to combine both patterns. The exception is the large African Woman pattern, this is 3 repeats across, so I’ve created a pattern that fits height wise [151 rows] either side of it, or you can do it on one side, there’s pictures below of ideas for your layout. I’ve

also created a couple of extra pattern breaks [13 rows] that would fit if you wanted to do the African Ladies or large square pattern at the side [or either side] of your African Woman.

With overlay mosaic crochet all single crochet stitches go into the back loop of the stitch and all double crochet stitches go into the front loop of the stitch 2 rows below which will be of the same colour. You cut the yarn at the end of every row and join new yarn at the start of every row, the ends will either be left to create a

fringe, or you can create an envelope border

My huge blanket measures 61/57 inches, 155/145.

With a size 3.5mm hook I used Drops Lima DK 50g, 100m/109yds. Drops Fiesta DK 50g, 110m/120yds. Drops Daisy DK 50g, 110m/120yds. Drops Merino Extra Fine DK 50g, 105m/115yds. I did 5 repeats wide, so I’ve used a lot of yarn for my forever family heirloom.

Drops Lima, Wheat Mix [0206] 15 skeins, 1,470m, Golden Rod [2923] 4 skeins, 354m, Black [8903] 13 skeins, 1240m, Chestnut [9026] 13 skeins, 1278m, Sea Green Mix [9018] 2 skeins, 158m. Drops Merino Extra Fine, Sage [47] 3 skeins 274m, Desert Rose [46] 2 skeins 208m, Blush [45] 2 skeins 208m. Drops Daisy, Orange [23] 2 skeins 216m. Drops Fiesta, Beige [04] 3 skeins 310m.

Total amount of yarn for my main blanket, 5 repeats across with a size 3.5 hook and DK yarn is 7,184m.

For my border, 32m for the slip stitch round in sage, 94m of oat mix and 176m of black. Total 302m.

Your charts at the end of the PDF. The Charts are read from bottom to top and right to left, so you start at the bottom right of the charts. Each blank square is a single crochet and each square with an X is a double crochet. The AS is the anchor stitch, the A/B is that all B rows are the detailed colour, and all A rows are the background colour.

    A Bit About Me!

I love how creative you can be with mosaic overlay crochet, using only simple stitches.

I dedicate all of my creativity and patterns to my Father who sadly left us Christmas 2021. He was a drummer in local bands in the 80s, one I particularly remember was “With the Flow” so this is why I have the word flow in some of my patterns.

His name was Cliff, my Mum always jokingly said that that’s the only reason she married him was because she had a crush on Cliff Richard lol. He was also in groups called Kindred Spirit, Dark Legion and Take 3, maybe I’ll use some of those words too!

Thank you for your interest and I hope you enjoy my designs!
